Software is a workshop, not a checklist.
Autodesk student access feels like a major opportunity, and I am making deliberate use of it. My goal is not to claim instant mastery over a long software list. It is to explore deeply, compare workflows, understand where modern tools came from, and turn that learning into visible projects.
3D Programs
Autodesk Maya
Maya is my modeling program of choice. Its hotbox, Hypershade, and fast direct-modeling workflow fit the way I think, and it is where I currently work most efficiently.
Autodesk 3ds Max
3ds Max connects naturally to my CAD, Inventor, Revit, engineering, and architecture background. I especially like its technical and parametric control for buildings.
Bryce 3D 7.1
I own Bryce 3D 7.1 and enjoy using it to build environments with a retro digital aesthetic. Its landscape, water, sky, material, and rendering tools make experimentation immediate.
Autodesk Softimage 2015
I tracked down a 30-day trial of Softimage 2015 to explore how older 3D models were made, learn Mental Ray, and study an earlier node-based workflow.
Unreal Engine
Unreal gives my assets a real-time destination. I am learning modular environments, imported materials, lighting, level dressing, and technical troubleshooting.
Substance 3D Painter
Substance has helped me understand how authored texture maps become a complete surface in Maya and Unreal.
ZBrush
ZBrush feels the most capable and natural of the sculpting tools I have explored with a graphics tablet or touch-focused workflow.
Mudbox + DAZ 3D
Mudbox and DAZ 3D provide approachable, lightweight ways to explore digital sculpting and character-oriented workflows.
Cinema 4D
During my time exploring Cinema 4D, I found its modeling workflow easy to pick up and enjoyable.
Revit + Inventor + CAD
My high-school engineering and architecture background introduced me to these tools and still influences how I think about scale, buildings, accuracy, assemblies, and visualization.
Render Engines
Arnold
My strongest current renderer and the engine that gives me my most dependable final results.
Mental Ray
A legacy renderer I am intentionally studying during my Softimage trial.
Redshift
Used for comparison studies; its speed and different visual response sharpen my render choices.
V-Ray
A learning goal after studying its material workflow and growing more confident in Arnold.
